Our Heritage & Legacy
Monsignor Doyle Council 1186 | Calgary, Alberta
Chartered on January 7, 1907, and personally blessed by Saint Pope Pius X, Council 1186 is the first Knights of Columbus council in Calgary and a foundational pillar of the Order in Alberta.
For 119 years, our council has stood as a stronghold of Christian brotherhood. Known simply as "Calgary Council 1186" for the first half-century of our existence, we adopted the name Monsignor Doyle in 1960 to honor a noted figure associated with the Sacred Heart Parish. Today, we carry forward the vision of Blessed Michael McGivney into a new century of service.
Explore our foundational years in The First 100 Years , a historical booklet produced for our centennial anniversary.
A Century of Witness
As one of only two councils established at the dawn of the Order's presence in Alberta, our record is one of spiritual and social purpose. We provide Catholic men with the opportunity to exercise leadership, witness their faith, and develop a brotherhood that cuts across cultural and social boundaries.
The Heart of Our Parish
Beyond our historical record, we are defined by our active presence in the Sacred Heart community through traditions that foster real fellowship:
- ■ Stampede Breakfast: Celebrating Calgary's culture with parish hospitality.
- ■ Shrove Tuesday: Serving our students and staff with a Lenten pancake breakfast.
- ■ Lenten Fellowship: Serving Clam Chowder at the Stations of the Cross.
- ■ Family Events: Hosting Parish BBQs and Movie Night series for all ages.
- ■ Hike for Life: Providing substantial support to Calgary Pro-Life missions.
- ■ Membership Open House: Welcoming new brothers into the Order.
