Second Annual Stampede Breakfast – July 6, 2025

On Sunday, July 6, Council 1186 hosted its 2nd Annual Stampede Breakfast following the 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 11:00 AM Masses at Sacred Heart Parish.

Setup began promptly at 7:30 AM in the southwest corner of the parish parking lot and adjoining playground area. The weather was mostly sunny with light winds, providing comfortable conditions for an outdoor parish gathering.

A strong turnout of Brother Knights supported the effort throughout the morning. The Council served over 1,200 pancakes, 1,000 sausages, and hot coffee to an estimated 500 guests, including parishioners, families, and neighbours from the surrounding community.

The event was honoured by the presence of State Treasurer Ian Clark, District Deputy Roone Learmont, and Father John Wright, who joined the gathering and contributed to the spirit of fraternity.

The event’s success was made possible by 27 Brother Knights who brought their energy and commitment to every aspect of the morning. Father Arjay, Father Mario Basque, Leslie Kiss, Allan Kohlman, Jim Delay, Hany Farag, and Hamilton Joseph mingled warmly with guests, fostering fellowship throughout. Sijo Abraham and Gil Escobar handled pancake flipping, while Doug Elder, John Leahy, Bryan Wynker and Tom Shannon took on sausage service. Wayne Gerylo assisted with pancakes, and Mike Walsh prepared batter steadily behind the scenes.

Stephen Sheridan oversaw the drink station and donations while helping wherever needed, and served as the event’s de facto cowboy-style ambassador. Leslie Trainor provided essential support across logistics and general operations. His Stampede spirit was evident in the energy and good humour he brought to the morning.  Lorne Gartner secured all event supplies and provided support wherever needed. Shibu Antony, Roy Ifill, James John, Cyril Nwachukwu, Anthony Obi, Donny Mulrain, and Cryztof Lopianowski all stepped in as needed to keep things running smoothly. Father Mario brought his signature humour and helped build a welcoming environment. Roland Reeves, Council Chronicler, captured the event through photography.

The breakfast also marked the first event for five of our newest Brother Knights, exemplified just one week earlier on June 29. Leslie Trainor, Donny Mulrain, Tom Shannon, Jim Delay, and Cryztof Lopianowski were all present and active throughout the morning. Their enthusiasm and willingness to step in wherever needed were appreciated and noted.

There was a draw for a car polisher, and Maria Espejo was the lucky winner.

Donations collected during the breakfast helped offset the cost of the event.

This breakfast once again demonstrated the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity in action. The food and service provided were matched by a strong sense of community and the visible presence of our Council.
