Diocesan Outdoor Way of the Cross: Safety Team Recruitment
On Good Friday, April 3, the Diocese of Calgary will host the Outdoor Way of the Cross with Bishop McGrattan. This is a significant public witness of faith, with an expected attendance of 2,500 to 3,000 participants.
We are issuing a city-wide call for Brother Knights and volunteers to join the Safety Team. This team is responsible for maintaining the reverence and order of the procession, supporting crowd flow, and ensuring safety at intersections and route points.
Date: Good Friday, April 3, 2026
Safety Team Arrival: 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Procession Start: 8:30 a.m.
Start Location: St. Mary’s Cathedral Hall (219 18 Ave SW, Calgary)
Volunteer Appointments
The Safety Team operates under the direction of the Safety Team Lead (Grand Knight of Council 1186). Volunteers provide a calm, steady presence to assist the clergy and the faithful.
- Service: Volunteers may serve for the full duration or a designated portion of the event.
- Assignments: Specific posts will be assigned on-site with clear instructions.
- Purpose: Managing route safety, family areas, and crowd dynamics to allow for an uninterrupted act of prayer and reparation.
