On Saturday, June 7th, 53 pilgrims from Sacred Heart Parish, along with one infant, came together for a grace-filled pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Rockies Shrine Church in Canmore. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, the day was marked by prayer, community, and spiritual renewal.
The pilgrimage began bright and early, with pilgrims departing at 8:00 am from the Sacred Heart Church parking lot. The bus ride was filled with quiet anticipation and joyful conversation as participants prepared their hearts for the day ahead. Upon arrival at the Shrine, we were warmly welcomed into the serene and majestic church that has become a place of prayer and devotion for so many.
At 9:30 am, the community gathered for Holy Mass, the heart of the pilgrimage. Surrounded by the mountains and the beauty of creation, the liturgy was both reverent and uplifting. The homily invited pilgrims to reflect on the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the call to deeper trust and devotion in our daily lives.
Following Mass, pilgrims joined together in a Group Rosary, offering prayers for the parish, families, and the wider world. Many also took the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a powerful encounter with God’s mercy. The Pilgrim’s Devotion was prayed together, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual focus.
The pilgrimage included time to tour the church, walk the peaceful grounds, and visit the gift shop. Pilgrims also enjoyed fellowship over snacks and refreshments. With the mountains surrounding the shrine, many found the quiet moments outside to be just as enriching as the liturgies within.
At 12:30 pm, the group departed from Our Lady of the Rockies, returning to Sacred Heart by early afternoon. The ride home was filled with gratitude, reflection, and a renewed sense of spiritual purpose.
This pilgrimage was a beautiful part of our Sacred Heart Jubilee Year celebrations. With 53 participants and one infant, it provided a time for prayer, reconciliation, and communion with God and one another in a truly inspiring setting. Many pilgrims expressed how deeply moved they were by the experience, carrying home a renewed faith and joy.
We give thanks to all who participated, and to those who helped organize and lead this special day. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to bless our parish and guide us ever closer to Him.
